The best, most informed, safe and friendly of all the cruises.
Several sailing and several marinas from which to depart.

If you are in Maui from December to May, whale watching trips are offered by a plethora of operators. I like Pacific Whale Foundation best for a few reasons. First, they have some trips that leave from Ma'alaea Harbor, which is about 10 minutes from north Kihei and doesn't require the relatively long and congested drive to Lahaina. Secondly, the naturalists do a good job of educating and keeping it interesting. Thirdly, they offer other trips, such as dolphin watching...even if you choose this option, you are virtually guaranteed to get in some prime whale watching as well. They seem to have a leg up on the other operators in finding the critters and getting as close as possible. Finally, the boats are well maintained and they don't seem to feel as crowded on some of the other tours. Well worth the cost.

They have many different trip options to go out on the ocean. Their store is interesting too, and a good place to find souvenir gifts or clothing.

The address above is wrong, it's just a short walk from Lahaina Shores to a great winter-time whale watch. Go early in the day while the ocean is calmer!

This is right next to Menehune Shores so just walk over. Find out their hours. They have lots to offer, including snorkel trips and whale watching.

This is the best organization for whale-watching. 100% of the profits from Pacific Whale Foundation's Eco-Adventures go to supporting research, education and conservation programs on behalf of whales, dolphins and the ocean environment. Their trips are educational and fun.

We took a dinner cruise with the Pacific Whale Foundation during whale season and had an incredible time. A local person was playing Hawaiian music and giving us some history of the Island of Maui. The food was great and we really enjoyed ourselves.

We love the PWF and use them for just about all of activities from Whale Watches to Molokini snorkel trips. Two locations, Lahaina and Ma'alaea. During humpback whale season, anytime is a good time to go out for a whale watch. For the Molokini snorkel trip, it's best to book the earliest trip of the day.

An excellent way to go whale watching and learn all about humpback whales from the people who protect them.

Not only can you learn about the precious Humpback whales that migrate to Maui each winter to birth their calves on exciting whale watch trips, but you can also enjoy dinner cruises and our personal favorite, the Island Rhythms Cocktail Cruise with Marty Dread.

Had a great experience with them last week on cruise to Molikini. The staff was really helpful and knowledgable. They kept us out on the waters for an extra half an hour because the whale watching was so good. We even saw some "false killer whales" on our trip, which is apparently very rare. The snorkeling quality out at Molikini is average compared to what's available at shore, and our second spot (Turtle Town) is accesible from shore as well. So going on the cruise wasn't really for the snorkeling but more for the whale watching and enjoyment of the ride. I would not recommend going on their whale watching tours since you can get that for free while on the snorkeling cruise. Also, make sure you go during the heart of the whale season, otherwise your trip may be a bust. We had an unreal experience and got to see a lot. Food was also good and service was fantastic. Also good to know that our money was going to a good cause.

Took two tours, one boat, one raft, both wonderful and informative. We've done this several years now. Whales are more than lovable.

If you're planning on doing a whale watching trip while in Maui definitely go with the Pacific Whale Foundation. They are a non-profit agency. All profits from their trips is put back towards the agency. The folks are knowledgeable! You can also have a Maui Brewing Company beer while onboard.

Offers whale-watching tours from Dec.16 to May 15. Boats leave often and are restricted from approaching closer than 100 yards. The captains work hard to put you in a good position. They have a marine biologist explain breeding, birthing, feeding and breaching. Enjoy!

Went on a whale watching tour with my family with this group and it was pretty good but I probably would not do it again. They don't want to get too close and we did not get too much action. We saw a couple of whales a reasonable distance away but did not make for an amazing experience, and we did not see much other wildlife. I guess it is sort of luck of the draw. If you are active and can enjoy the beaches I would not do this if you are only in town for a week or so.

These are your guys for whale watching on Maui!

    - Guaranteed whale sightings
    - Environmentally conscious non profit
    - Respectful of local laws and animals

There's a variety of companies that will promise you closer encounters with the whales by circumventing local laws and intruding into the animals space. You will still get real close with these guys and stay respectful of these beautiful creatures.

We did a snorkel trip with Pacific Whale Foundation out to Molokini Crater. The cruise was pretty good - they had a great photographer to take underwater shots. But my sense is the snorkeling was much better closer to shore.

Description

You can help save whales from extinction when you get active with the Pacific Whale Foundation in Hawaii. You can join as a member or volunteer, but there are other ways you can help too. Adopting a whale, dolphin or turtle helps support research and programs. In return for a monetary donation, you get an e-adoption package that includes a certificate, a story of the animal you adopted, and maps to show you where your animal is in the ocean. You also get to name your animal! You can also take part in the whale regatta where small rubber whales race on a water course way. Learn about these magnificent creatures while you help to save them at the same time.
