Padangbai, in near eastern Bali, is just a small place -- a strip of beach and some rocky headlands with a bunch of traveller cafes and guesthouses scattered along its breadth. And though each morning the town is positively packed with busloads of short-time tourists passing thru on their way to the Gili Islands via fast boat, it's still a nice place to hang out for a day or two, with good snorkelling at Blue Lagoon beach, and tasty seafood.

This is one of my favorite spots in Bali, in part because most people don't know you can go here. It is mostly known as the place where you catch the ferry to Lombok, but it is actually a cool, laid back beach town where you can really unwind. One of the beaches a short walk outside of town has little food huts on the beach where they send boys diving into the water to spear your fish and cook it up fresh while you relax in the sun.

Padang Bai is a gorgeous fishing village with some of the most beautiful clear seas i have seen. Some of my best photographs have come from this amazing place. Careful here as there are a good amount of hawkers here willing to try to get your money on bikes or tour guides. Make sure you shop around before settling a price for a boat ride or motorbike.
