Now this is special. I've sampled the 'best', or at least the most expensive hotels in Lisbon but absolutely nothing beats this for location, character or value. So let's start with the location: inside the walls of the Moorish castle of São Jorge, overlooking the Tagus River. Just 10 rooms (suites, as they like to call them, as they are palatial) make the place feel extremely intimate, yet there's a wonderful feeling of space. Azulejos (for the uninitiated, those beautiful white and blue ceramic tiles which are one of Portugal's signature crafts) everywhere. The terrace suites are the obvious choice if you want a view or somewhere to chill on a balmy night, but it's hard to fault any of them - I took a look at a few during our stay - other than for the slightly incongruous bathroom fittings. A good find.Recommended for:Luxury Travelers
