This building is so elegant from the outside, but even more impressive inside! Definitely worth paying the small fee to take a self guided tour.

Definitely take the guided tour. So interesting and you get so much insight into the design as well as the politics of the era.

One of the most famous buildings in Paris. I never got the chance to see anything here but wish I had.

Decadent and opulent. It's as if a jewelry maker came in and lathered the place in gold. I was fortunate to have seen the ballet here and was amazed by how lavish the stage was. Even if you're not into the opera or ballet, I recommend coming here just to see how beautiful the inside of the building is.

This is a pretty significant musical site, so if you're in Paris and have interest in such things, make sure you visit it. The entrance is lined with statues of great French composers, and the theater space itself is richly colored and furnished.

Beautiful building from the outside. I haven't made it inside yet, I just passed by here on my way into the city.

My first time inside Le Palais Garnier! I saw a beautiful ballet called La Sylphide! What I loved about the theatre was the ceiling! An enormous and elegant art deco chandelier surrounded with iconic paintings of Chagall!

Many places were not accessible to public and for 9 euros...that was a little discouraging. I suggest grabbing the tour to get better access, but the whole palace is just stunning and such a show stopper. Super!

The Palais Garnier houses the Paris Opera and the Paris Opera Ballet. There's a gift shop that caters to aspiring ballerinas, so there's something to see even if you aren't there for a performance.

    CDGに着いたら、パリへは必ずRoissy Busで向かいます。そうすると、この壮大なるOpera Garnierが出迎えてくれるから・・・(あと安いってのもあるけど)。私のとってのパリの「顔」は、このOpera Garnierです。

As a dancer, I find the Paris Opera (and most of the old European opera houses, for that matter) magical. This one is particularly grand, redolent of the years of etoile-produced art and sweat, and with a giftshop du qualite'.

Never forget to hear, if you have time, one concert in Opera, at the Place of La Madeleine, in the Center of Paris!!! For visit only, it's "inoubliable"!!!

Absolutely beautiful and opulent Opera House of Paris, this is where I tried very hard to retrace the Phantom's footsteps, but instead, I get to follow the beautiful marble floor to see one of the grandest and most beautiful stages.

Gorgeous building. The gold accents on the roof glint in the sun, even in the shade of the buildings around it. It's easy to get to many places from here, as the metro station is right in front and connects you so even if this isn't on your list of stops, it can easily be added!

Description

The Paris Opera, as it's usually called, was designed by Charles Garnier and is Paris's classic Opera House. The setting of the fictional Phantom of the Opera, the Palais Garnier, inaugurated in 1875, still houses the Paris Opera Ballet and its ethereal etoiles.
