- Palazzo Magnani FeroniOct 29, 2013
The Palazzo Magnani is so astoundingly amazing I wish I could give it 10 stars. The place is a historical building, so you could spend a lot of time just wandering the halls, examining the framed samples of antique tapestries and tassels, old school phonographs and ancient kitchens! There are snacks and coffee & tea available on every floor all day and all night. A billiard room and a ballroom, to boot. This would be an ideal place for a wedding.
Each room is different and totally unique, named with a historical figure. The room I was in was Livia. Here's a detail that melted my heart: there is a box of individually boxed soaps from the Body Shop in the room. So, as though opening presents on Christmas, you get to choose which of the lovely soaps you'd like to use. Could there be a more deluxe detail?
I spent a lot of time on the rooftop terrace. Stunning views of Florence abound and the bar is open in the evening. Cozy blankets are strewn about so that you can bundle up as the sun goes down.
The breakfast room has a carved wood ceiling and a chandelier so jaw dropping that I could barely appreciate my cappuccino. The exercise room is a bit dark (my photo makes it look worse than it was), but it's nice to have it as an option.
I was grateful for the work station across from the lobby -- a computer complete with printer and fax available for guest use.

I stayed here with my parents at the end of a very long study abroad program. I think my parents thought it would be a bit more modern than it is, especially for the price, but it's certainly an exceedingly nice hotel that really attempts to highlight its strengths. Everything from the architecture of the building itself to the decor, which harkens back to the time of real Italian royalty, suggests that this is going to be a somewhat unconventional hotel experience. Don't worry, you'll still have amenities like a great shower, a very comfy bed, and as many miniature BVLGARI toiletries as you can get your hands on. On the other hand, the large stone hallways can get somewhat cold and creepy at night and the hotel is just a little bit stuffy.
My favorite thing about this hotel is the rooftop. It has a really fantastic view of Florence and the hills that surround it. I very much enjoyed having a cocktail and enjoying the Tuscan sunset from here every night of my stay.

A truly palatial experience, from the moment you enter the palazzo. Through the enormous stone archway with carved wooden doors and into the grand entrance hall, one cannot avoid feeling a bit regal. The building is from the 16th century, and that's not the only wonderfully archaic element here. The ambience is colored by quaint elements from the beautiful antique elevator to the abundance of displayed tapestries, paintings, sculptures, old keys and clothing. The room I was in was stunningly styled, and had, in addition to all the basic amenities, a few small touches that made it feel like a truly special experience. For example, there were several soap samples in cute box in the room, so I (ok, my girlfriend) could choose the (best) one and have more of it brought to our room. A few of the other elements that put this palazzo a cut above just about anywhere in town include the billiards room, the public computer that included a printer, so I could print out my daily itineraries, and complimentary coffee and tea in the breakfast room and the lobby. Speaking of the breakfast room… It was like a small ballroom which had an amazing ceiling with woodworked detail and a huge chandelier. The conference room, was equally stunning but covered in amazing frescoes. And to top it off, the roof terrace, where they serve breakfast and host the bar, during the spring and summer months, had a spectacular panoramic view. What a marvelously unique experience.

This is the sort of place to stay in if you want to know what it would have felt like to be Italian royalty, centuries ago. The chandeliers, high ceilings with frescoes tantalizing you from above, the extreme elegance and white-gloved waiters all around - few people today get to live such a luxurious life, but wouldn't it be great! Historically, the place has been used this way for centuries - French dignitaries and the wealthy of Europe have gathered here for extravagant weekends and dinner parties, and the atmosphere permeates with this kind of rich historical flavor. Each room is distinct, so you could really stay here forever with a different flare of elegance! I was also impressed with the billiard room and fully functional gym.
