What an amazing getaway! Take the tram up for some of the best hiking around. Be prepared in the cooler months for snow! There are many hiking trails and snow play areas in the winter. A light jacket is always a good idea when going up in the elevation if you are not used to the cooler temperatures.Recommended for:

The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is the World’s Largest Rotating Tramcar. The 10 min ride takes you up Chino Canyon. Starting at the Valley Station – elevation 2,643 ft. and end at the Mountain Station – elevation 8,516 ft. What an experience. Whether you are enjoying spectacular views or hiking in a pristine wilderness, it is a one-of-a-kind experience.Recommended for:

A ride with the Aerial Tramway is a Must-See when you are in Palm Springs! A great place to hike and you can enjoy spectacular views from the top. Don't forget to bring some extra clothes.

This tramway takes you on a dizzying trip from the desert floor up into the San Jacinto Mountains. In summer, you can hike into the cool pine forest and if you're ambitious, up to the top of Mt San Jacinto (elevation 10,384 feet). In winter, you can rent snowshoes and cross-country skis to follow the trails. Even if you don't do much at all at the top other than enjoying the scenery, it's worth making the trip!Recommended for:

Experience the world's largest rotating aerial tramway for a truly breathtaking journey up the sheet cliffs of the nearby San Jacinto mountains. The views during this ride at the the top are truly spectacular! There is a lodge at the summit with a bar/pub, cafe and upscale restaurant with view, and shops. Adventurers can embark on incredible day (and overnight) hikes on the backside during the summer or fun in the snow during winter. We strongly recommend all of our guests to visit this memorable attraction to see the spectacular views and experience the climate change! Avoid crowds by arriving at opening hours, or late afternoon. Parking is free at the base, and there's a complimentary shuttle to the tram station.

Definitely worth doing, but be prepared for weather 30 degrees cooler at the top! I don't really recommend eating at either the buffet restaurant of the fancier place at the top. You can do much, much better at one of my other recommendations on this Insider Guide.
