A sumptuous, classic hotel near public transit and a multitude of places to eat and shop. Most impressive is the greenhouse room full of leafy canopies, adjacent to the elegant lobby. An elevator sweeps you up to the classy guest rooms, however rooms resemble the more generic type you would find at say a Marriott. For such a unique place as Venice, the art deco decor doesn't match the city. The Papadopoli Venezia is right next door to Piazzale Roma and a 5 min walk from the Ferrovia, and neighbors a legendary snack bar on the Fondamenta Tolentini, Bacareto Da Lele, a must-try if you are staying in this vicinity. Eat a cicchetto and sip on an ombra while sitting on the steps of Chiesa di San Nicolo di Tolentino and soak it all in.Recommended for:

The gorgeous restaurant in this hotel - which is part cavern, part rainforest, part garden, and all luxury – is reason enough to stay here. (It also has gluten-free options, which is rare in this country.) It’s the first thing you see when coming through the revolving door (which has a glass sculpture at its nexus), right behind an opulent lobby with a big, glittering chandelier and a shiny baby grand piano. What’s particularly impressive about this place is that it feels like high luxury, but it’s also warm and comfortable. I could spend hours writing or reading in the bar area (with views of the canal), and I could imagine hanging out on the red upholstered couches in the lobby area to wait for visiting friends. The classic room isn’t huge, but it’s bigger than many standard rooms in Venice, and it has a mini bar, a ridiculously comfortable bed with fluffy white pillows and linens, wi-fi (7 Euros for the first three hours and free thereafter), a lovely view of the public garden right next door (apparently the suites have balconies with views of the canal), and – my favorite part – bathrobes in the bathroom.Recommended for:

This hotel is ridiculously close to the train station but doesn’t feel like it, since it’s right inside the Papadopoli Garden. There is something magical about having to walk through the statue garden to get to the hotel (unless you took the boat in to its private dock, which certainly has its own surreal charm). It's equally grand on the inside. My favorite part is probably the rainforest breakfast room where, if you manage to see through all the plant-life, you could look out onto the garden park on the other side of floor-to-ceiling windows. The room I was in was beautiful, though not strikingly unique. Just simple, tasteful Venetian style with beautiful furniture. It had a little tea station in the room and a great city view out the window. There was also a killer 20-foot-long balcony/terrace with a view off the room (a suite), which was pretty amazing.
