So on the whole I didn't like the hotel. The rooms are clean and the location is pretty convenient. It is only a couple blocks from the metro and an easy 20-30 minute walk to Columbia University. The staff on the whole was friendly. However, that is about all the good I have to say. The rooms are ridiculously small. I could barely open the door of my room enough to slide a suitcase into the room. The bathroom is super narrow, with less than reliable hot water. The radiator makes a ton of noise during the night, and the wifi is slow and cuts out all the time. Breakfast isn't included, and all of this for almost $300 a night. I know NYC is expensive, but still this seems to be beyond the pale.Recommended for:Business Travelers

Located right off of Central Park and right by the American Museum of Natural History and New-York Historical Society, Park 79 Hotel is a great option for an Upper West Side vacation! The hotel itself is simple, with a few couches in the lobby and not many amenities in the guest rooms, but it gets the job done and at a great rate, especially for the neighborhood! A safe and flatscreen TV with cable are available in the room, and ice will be delivered whenever you call for assistance! The bathrooms are rather tiny, so if you're expecting any long, luxurious vacation showers, you may want to stay elsewhere. Accommodations are clean and while not the most modern, nothing about the hotel feels outdated. Fairway, Zabar's, and other great grocery stores are nearby for quick snacks or homemade meals.

This Upper West Side boutique hotel will attract guests with its cute country-styled rooms. I felt like I stepped inside an Upper West Side brownstone bedroom. While it lacks in amenities (bring your own late night snacks and drinks) it makes up for it with a flat-screen TV with satellite cable and complimentary wireless internet in your rooms.
The rooms are actually quite quiet so if you want to block out the city’s sounds, this hotel might be a good fit. If you splurge for the suite, you’ll find that not only can it accommodate 4 guests because of the pull out queen sofa bed, but there is also a large desk, a mini-fridge and a microwave at your disposal along with a living room space.
If you don’t mind sharing a bathroom there is an option of a semi-private room that may help out if you’re on a budget.

The Park 79 Hotel is a short walk from Central Park and the Museum of Natural History. It has rooms with shared or private baths. My room was small but comfortable, and much more affordable than other New York City hotels.Recommended for:History Buffs
