One of Rio's verdant little treasures, Parque Lage is home to rambling English-style gardens, forest paths and the ruins of a colonial-era estate that today houses a school of visual arts (and an appealing indoor-outdoor cafe). It sits at the foot of Corcovado, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer gazes out over the city, and sees just a fraction of the visitors of the nearby botanical gardens. Those who enjoy hiking can set out from the park on a 2- to 3-hour hike up Corcovado. Bring plenty of water, as it's a strenuous climb in parts.

Beautiful park surrounded by greenery and a stone house from 16th century wonderful that today is home to the School of Visual Arts in Rio. Take an afternoon Cafe at tables surrounding the pool which is in the center of the house and is served by a delicious cafeteria.

Espetacular! O lugar é incrível, e aos domingos de manhã tem um café da manha disputado a tapas. Se quiser experimentar, chegue cedo, antes das 9 horas, são poucas mesas.

Cant go wrong; it's free, it's beautiful, it's interesting. This building is the Escola de Artes Visuais (EAV); there is a gallery & works in progress all around. Little jungle trails take you to what look like castle ruins, a surprise mini-aquarium & apparently you can set off on a 2 hour hike from here to Christ the Redeemer.

This is one of the most beautiful places in Rio. An old palace-like house that is now a cultural center which also houses one of the nicest cafes to have brunch at, overlooking the tropical forest and a nice patio with an old pool. Unmissable! Try it for brunch on a weekend.

Close to the Botanical Garden, it's smaller but still a relaxing place. Go there for a walk or make a picnic; if you go early you can enjoy the breakfast at Cafe du Lage, with a glance of the Christ the Redeemer in the back.

The beautiful Parque Lage and its mansion, now a design school, is simply stunning. Once a private estate, it's a luxuriant park, with lush tropical gardens, and great art exhibitions. A great place to avoid the crippling heat of summer!

Description

Plan a change of pace from your usual entertainment routine and visit the Parque Lage public park in the Corcovado district of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A small park, the property was once privately owned by industrialist Enrique Lage who built the ground’s mansion to impress his Italian wife, but now houses a school of visual arts. Free to the public you can picnic on the lawn or eat at the small café on the premises. A walk under the canopy of century-old trees is quite inviting with a playground nearby for children to play. This park is truly a hidden treasure in the midst of Rio de Janerio’s hustle and bustle of city life.
