After an unforgettable day at Semuc Champey, take a 3-wheeled "taxi" over to Las Grutas de Lanquin caves an hour or so before sundown. Bats pour out of this cave system by the millions at dusk in search of insect snacks. You can sit right at the entrance in the pitch black - you'll hear their wings flapping inches from your face, but they won't hit you. If you get there early, you can check out the bizarre natural formations in the cave, as well. And since this is Guatemala, an armed guard will accompany you, of course. Make sure you pay for your taxi to wait for you - it's a very dark walk back to town otherwise.
