A place with lots of volcanic activity, easy to explore. Rincon de la Vieja has pristine waterfalls, lush forests, hot springs, with lots of wild life. There are 3 points of interest: The summit or the crater top is a great , about 7 km of distance from the rangers house, at the main entrance. The second attraction is Las Pailas Trail, about 3 km in distance, sulfur vents, boiling mud pots, little roaring craters, a nice forest with birds, monkeys, small and large mammals, and some reptiles. The other important attraction is La Cangreja Waterfall, another Rio Celeste , a large blue waterfall about 1 hour from the rangers station. Great for hiking, bird watching, or simply enjoying nature.

This national park is about half an hour drive from Liberia, Costa Rica. Of the 2 national parks in Liberia, this one has more actual attractions to see than "Santa Rosa". You need a full day for this park as there are trails to see 3 waterfalls (and yes you can, and definitely should take a dip!), mini volcano, boiling natural clay formations, lots of animals to see (i saw 2 types of monkeys and heard the howler monkey scream across the forest, sounded like the whole forest is screaming!), and innumerable number of insects and birds! If you like picture taking of nature, you will need to watch your step and enjoy :)
