The greatest bulding ever built by the Atheneans, majestic and HUGE! It's to bad it's in such poor state. Guide told us that after Athens was invaded the Parthenon was used as gunpowder storage... naturally, and explosion eventually happened and as a result it was severely damaged.

Nothing could prepare me for the impact of this historic and grand site! No picture or story can do it justice. As you climb the stairs to the top of the hill, you are struck with the size of the buildings, the view from this site, and the impressive stature of the acropolis of ancient Greece. What a mighty civilization!

It's main attraction of Athens. You can't visit the capital without going up the acropolis and visiting the Parthenon. It's best if a guide will be with you to understand the rich history.

You can't visit Athens without checking out the Parthenon. If you visit at night you will be able to see it lit up. It is a really beautiful site!

The Parthenon, an icon of Western civilization, is one of the most famous buildings in the world. The temple, built in the fifth century BC, overlooks the city of Athens from its majestic position on top of the sacred Acropolis Hill.

There is a little coffee shop on the corner and a small store that is managed by an old woman who sells furs. Great place in the evening walking down the cobbled stones on the back road and then seeing the Pathetnon in the distance is amazing

The Parthenon is located on the Acropolis on a hill that overlooks Athens. The temple was built to honor the goddess Athena Parthenos, the patron of Athens, to thank her for protecting the city during the Persian Wars. Originally designed by the famous sculptor Phidias, the Parthenon originally held all kinds of treasures, but the main attraction was a huge statue of Athena that was made out of chryselephantine also known as elephant ivory and gold. The Parthenon dates back to 447 BC, and it was actually built over another temple that is often referred to as the Pre-Parthenon.

Amazing to stand next to something so old and with so much history. It is being restored right now so there are cranes in the way, but still cool to see.

You Can't go to Athens without going up to see the Parthenon.
It is the focal point of the city and the view dominates where ever you are at.
It is fascinating and I would highly reccomend getting a guide.
To go up there and not have a clue what you are looking at is defeating the purpose of going up.
There are many guides that can be hired for a couple of hours and they are all government approved and the sories they tell are amazing.

Simply an amazing building with so much history, from being constructed, defaced, and even used to store ammunition. The new museum nearby is also a must see that really puts the Parthenon in context, although you will have to go to London to find some of the marbles.

All the tricks that architects have ever though in order to ameliorate a building seem to have been implemented in Parthenon. Gorgeous! As simple as that!
