Patong Beach, up there with Patpong, Koh Phangan, Kuta, Angeles City and Chaweng as one of the main party towns of Asia, is an amazing place as it easily blends girlie-bars and transexual clubs with family friendly restaurants and street markets. Something that only Thailand could do!
Patong Beach, up there with Patpong, Koh Phangan, Kuta, Angeles City and Chaweng as one of the main party towns of Asia, is an amazing place as it easily blends exotic nightlife (girlie-bars and transexual clubs) with family friendly restaurants and interesting street markets. Something that only Thailand could do!
Most hotels are family friendly and are located in the streets back from the beach. Unusually there is only one beach-side hotel in Patong Beach and that is the excellent Impiana Phuket Cabana. However, it’s not for the beach that most tourists come to the area, it is more for the fun, shopping and nightlife. Popular hotels in town to stay in are the Patong Merlin, Holiday Inn and Hard Rock Hotel, but all hotels in Patong town are walking distance to the main beach strip (Beach Road) and the world famous Bangla Road.
If you are looking for a secluded, relaxing beach to swim, then Patong really isn’t the place, checkout Kalim Beach just a bit north of Patong, it’s a much more secluded spot to hang-out, but like most beaches in the area the sea has quite a lot of coral, so a paddle is more likely than a full-on swim.
But like everywhere in Thailand it’s the food that is the real standout, so I recommend you checkout the fresh seafood and duck curries at one of the hundreds of restaurants dotted around the town: on main streets and back alleys. And of course it’s always pretty cheap!
