My Son and I were wandering around this stretch of SE Hawthorne earlier in the week. It was cold and windy and the added hustle and bustle was "creeping him out". I suggested and he readily accepted my suggestion that we find an inside table at Peet's, order some coffee, and hang out for awhile. Yes I know that there are independent coffee shops within walking distance, but as you might know, adolescent boys sometimes have ZERO patience and demand immediate gratification. Hence, I took what was in plain sight and went with the flow. And he still likes to be seen in public with me!
Even though the Peet's Chain has grown and coffee snobbery has kept pace in terms of single drip (and other) alternatives, I still enjoy stopping in. It's a familiar comfort in a sometimes weird Portlandia sea, and they still do fresh black coffee really well. Service was fast and friendly, a table was available, people watching was fun, and it was great to spend some quality time with the Kid.Recommended for:Family Travelers
