One of my most favorite places on the planet, the Peninsula Valdes is a truly wild and wonderful coastal wilderness. Both the sea and land alike team with abundant Patagonian wildlife - from right whales to elephant seals and penguins in the sea, to grazing guanacos, maras and rheas in the dry, nearly desert expanses of the Peninsula's interior. This is Argentina's answer to the Serengeti, yet distinct, mystical, oozing with local character. It is sure to leave something on your spirit that cannot be torn away. I know, because it remains forever on mine.

I could not agree more with Arlo's review of Valdes. I used to live one hour drive from this wonderful place and I have spent many weekends driving across the peninsula, drinking mate with unforgettable friends and letting my soul marvel time after time by the wonderful wildlife, the immense skies, the absolute silence and the simple but yet stunning landscape. Arlo is right when he says that this place leaves a lasting mark in one's spirit. It surely did on Charles Darwin who explored the area in his youth and wrote this in his autobiography: "the glories of the vegetation of the Tropics rise before my mind at the present time more vividly than anything else; though the sense of sublimity, which the great deserts of Patagonia and the forest-clad mountains of Tierra del Fuego excited in me, has left an indelible impression on my mind".
