One of many cemeteries around the city of Paris famous for being the final resting spot for such well known names as Chopin, Oscar Wilde and the Doors Jim Morrison.

Be sure to spend at least a couple of hours in this beautiful "city of the dead". You could easily spend an entire day here, roaming this park-like setting with it varied array of elaborate monuments. There is nothing creepy about this place. Along with famous residents such as Jim Morrison, Edith Piaf, Moliere and countless others, regular Parisians rest here too.

Oscar Wilde, Jim Morrison and many more famous people are buried here. It is a great place to stroll and read the epitaphs ! Catch a metro to get yourself there in 20 minutes.

The final resting place of misfit geniuses. I remember all of the trouble my friends and I took going to Jim Morrison's grave but now I think I would be more impressed by that of Oscar Wilde, who attained as great a fame and notoriety in his day.

Much to the chagrin of the Père-Lachaise Cemetery Officials, Jim Morrison is still here. The Lizard King's legions continue to swoon for the crooner even though he's in a far less corpulent state post-mortem. His Beethoven style bust is long gone but the notes, tokens and graffiti declaring undying love and allegiance continue being left behind. The other real star is, of course, Oscar Wilde. His tomb is decorated with lipstick kisses for boys or girls I couldn't tell but either way, I don't think he would have minded ;-)

Pere-Lachaise Cemetery is one of the most interesting places I have ever seen.
It is the final resting place of Rock Legend Jim Morrison as well as Chopin.
Countless dignitaries and movie stars have also been buried there.
Absolutely worth a look!!

One of the most stunning cemeteries I've seen. I only wish I'd had more time there. It was raining on the day we visited and so that cut our stay a bit short. I was able to leave my kiss on Oscar Wilde's tomb, though, so at least there is that.

One of my favorite sights. Spread out enough that it doesn't feel overrun by tourists. Do yourself a favor and pay for the map when you enter. Easy to get lost and very hard to find some of the more famous grave sights.

Probably the most beautiful cemetery I have ever visited...with the slight yet unfortunate exception of some mausoleums having been defaced by disrespectful visitors etching directions to Jim Morrison's grave-site into them.

The Père-Lachaise Cemetery has a strange history in that it was originally shunned because it had not been blessed by the Roman Catholic Church. In an effort that is both eerie and intriguing, the administrators began collecting the remains of famous public figures as a marketing strategy in 1804.Recommended for:History Buffs
