I went here soley to see Oscar Wilde's grave. I love him. However, as far as cemeteries go, this one is wonderful. I do think it a bit off that a cemetery is a tourist attraction, but I also understand... at least a little bit, why this one has become a destination. There's a lot of walking involved, so wear good shoes. Pick up a map before you go if you can.

Pere Lachaise is the most gorgeous, peaceful, and celebrity packed cemetery ever. Perfect background for a long chat as you visit luminaries like Chopin, Isadora Duncan, and Edith Piaf. Although there are maps available and signposts along the way, there is still a lovely sense of discovery to be had as you wind through the tree lined avenues of the deceased, happening upon this writer or that politician.

Peaceful & beautiful... Both a cemetery and a park to take a walk. I recommend you have a look at: Victor Noir's grave, where women rub the private parts of his mortuary statue, Oscar Wilde's kiss-covered grave, or the grave of the legendary lovers, Heloise & Abelard.
