The Pestana Palace Hotel is an incredible garden oasis inside of a major European capital. This 5 star hotel and national monument really deserves the name ‘palace.’ It was built from the former 19th century residence of a Portuguese noble. The noble, the Marquis of Valle Flôr, made his vast fortune from cacao, grown in and exported from the East African islands of São Tomé and Príncipe. There are almost too many things to list about this hotel for a small review. It’s simply that amazing. The rooms and suites are elegant and extremely regal. There is an outdoor swimming pool that resembles a small lake in the middle of the extensive grounds, as well as a chic indoor pool, fitness center and spa facility. A massive tropical garden encompasses a large portion of the complex, which makes for a very pleasant walk come day or night. With quite a few lounges spread throughout the hotel’s different buildings, a large restaurant and four hectares of land garden, you won’t have any reason to complain about a lack of space. Some of the rooms face the interior gardens, some face the street, and others face the Tejo River. No matter where you end up staying in the Pestana Palace Hotel, you’ll be sure to feel like royalty, living in a bygone era.Recommended for:
