This desert location may initially seem like a strange place to build a capital, but in the late nineteenth century when this city was being constructed, the architects had a good template from which to work. The Hohokam Indians had for centuries lived in this area, where they constructed an extensive system of canals to distribute limited water. Today, Phoenix and the surrounding area support over four million people. Phoenix’s ever-expanding urban sprawl is blurring the lines between it and the surrounding cities like Glendale, Tempe and Scottsdale. Still, heading ether north or south from the center of Phoenix should take you to less populated areas where hiking, and mountain-biking are just a few of the outdoor activities frequently practiced. Arizona State is located near Tempe, and the surrounding bars and clubs are some of the best places to jump back into the college partying scene. Arizona also has several competitive sports teams located in the greater Phoenix area, but their success has made demand high and ticket prices are ever increasing. Visit Phoenix, and discover America's most sparkling desert oasis.

Phoenix is a great getaway location to beat the winter cold weather. Days can be in the 70s-80s with cooler nights. All the resorts have great pools and many have golf and spa facilities.
