Definitely go at night when it is just eerily beautiful to behold. Roman grandeur writ very large. And it's a lot of fun too, especially navigating the crowds and climbing the steps.

Flanked by grand neoclassical colonnades, this landmark piazza was laid out as part of Rome’s post-unification makeover. It follows the lines of the semicircular exedra (benched portico) of Diocletian’s baths complex and was originally known as Piazza Esedra. In the centre, the Fontana delle Naiadi aroused puritanical ire when it was unveiled by architect Mario Rutelli in 1901. The nudity of the four naiads or water nymphs, who surround the central figure of Glaucus wrestling a fish, was considered too provocative.

You can't but run into this magnificent castle with impressive fountains and 2 theatrical flames if you're walking around Rome through the main street. Wasn't on my to-do list but was very delightful to see its grandeur.

Mainly a traffic circle with a giant fountain, this is just close to Termini and also backs right up on the Terme di Diocleziano.

Piazza della Repubblica is one of Rome's grand sights if you're traveling by car, much like how PIazza Venezia wows newcomers to the Eternal City. It's not surrounded by tourists and there's a beautiful fountain in the center. The architecture around the Fontana delle Naiadi is equally beautiful, especially at night when the place is dramatically illuminated.

This is a nice piazza near Termini station. We like that they have a McDonald's here with outside seating with no extra cost. You can sit and watch the people and the traffic while eating your burger and fries. The huge fountain in the middle is one of the best in Rome and is lit up after dark.

Per me un posto indimenticabile! Occhio al servizio ai tavoli dei bar che la circondano! Si spende esattamente il doppio!!!

Muy concurrida de día y una preciosidad de noche. ¡Merece la pena verla iluminada!

Description

In Greek mythology, Naiads were nymphs that presided over fountains, rivers, lakes, and oceans. In 1901 they were a controversial subject in Rome. Architect Mario Rutelli had just unveiled the four bronze nymphs that made up his masterwork and the new centerpiece of the Piazza de Republica, the “Fontana delle Naiadi.” The nude figures were considered far too provocative. Conservative citizens were outraged. Nonetheless, the fountain that Benito Mussolini called "exaltation of eternal youth, the capital's first salute to art" remained, as it does today, in the circular plaza surrounded by the baths of Diocletian.
