You can't but run into this magnificent castle with impressive fountains and 2 theatrical flames if you're walking around Rome through the main street. Wasn't on my to-do list but was very delightful to see its grandeur.

Piazza Colonna is a nice square, albeit not as memorable, with a grand column and a fountain. The column is the highlight here, with details etched from near the base up to the top. It's quite grand, and it's no surprise that the square was named after it.Popular withHistoryDesign

It's a quiet little piazza located in front of Sant'Ignazio. It's quite pretty, though it's not one of the piazze that you could stare at for hours. But for the more modest squares, it's probably the most elegant.Popular withBackpackers

Very cool museum about Imperial Fora and Trajan's Market. The museum uses actual Trajan's Market ruins and houses various remains from the Imperial Fora. The self guide tour is very useful. You can take pictures inside the museum as long as you don't use flash.Popular withHistory

Wonderful art gallery and library in an astonishing building that also houses Galileo's academy. The entrance fee is a few euro which gives you access to wonderful art and statuary. Splendid and in a great neighbourhood in Rome.Popular withHistoryDesignLocal

Do not miss a visit to the Basilica of Our Lady in Trastevere. This Basilica is one of the oldest Churches of Rome. The basic floor plan and wall structure of the church dates back to the 340s. After the visit, do not look at your map and just get lost in the nice small cobblestone streets of Trastevere. You ...

Rome's palm tree filled Piazza is just behind Termini Station and, these days, filled with Indian and Chinese markets, as well as renowned quirky discount Emporium MAS. The square was the geographic center for the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, a multicultural band that has found a degree of international fame. If you're lucky, you'll catch them playing here of a ...Popular withLocalFoodiesBackpackers

Believe it or not... who would have thought about stumbling into an Irish pub... in Italy... mere blocks from the Colosseum?! It's actually a pretty spot on themed pub. And I have to say the food, the beer and the prices are right up there! It's down a little alley, but if you're in the area and looking for something ...Popular withBackpackersNightlifeLocal

Though Piazza Mignanelli is not amongst the city’s most famous squares, there will be very few tourists who will not have unwittingly set foot on this beautiful little piazza. Piazza Mignanelli lies at the foot of the Pincio hill, to the right of the Spanish Steps and the narrow stairways leading up to the Trinità dei Monti church.Popular withLocal

Santa Pudenziana is probably the oldest Christian church in Rome. It doesn’t look interesting at all from the outside, and inside it’s pretty plain, but the main attraction here are the 4th century mosaics (they have been restored). The mosaics (considered to be the oldest in Rome) are very impressive and colorful, they depict some religious scene. It’s worth a ...Popular withHistory
