This restaurant was the highlight of my experience in Paris. If the charm of Eric Setour, the sommelier, doesn't draw you in instantly, Emmanuelle, the convivial hostess, will seal the deal. They have proven themselves truly worthy of inheriting this landmark restaurant. The food is divine - better than we had at a Michelin-starred restaurant, in fact. The presentations may not be over-the-top but they fit the bill and the decor is so chic and the atmosphere so inviting that your entire culinary experience can't help but soar above the rest. I had a fois gras starter SO good it brought a tear to my eye. I fear I will never taste its equal. Eric paired wines up for everything we ate that night, and the Sauternes with the starter was perfection. My dining companion ordered the asparagus wrapped in prosciutto. The mmmmm-ing emanating from her every 5 seconds was enough to tell me she chose wisely as well. We continued with duck & lamb - both brilliant with sauces and purées that simply melted in the mouth, and finished with poached pears in wine for me (my first time having them - this is how pears dream of ending their lives) and she had the Mille Feuille which she is still talking about to this day. This jewel of a restaurant was so good we returned later in the week with friends and, once again, they delivered. It's almost cruel to run through the items we had since the menu changes every day and I doubt the Chef ever repeats himself. The bottom line is this; Pierre is THE place to go for newbies to the city. And if you're extra friendly with the hostess, she may very well take you out partying after her shift is done. Hold on to your socks - a night of crazy fun (possibly) lays ahead!
