I think everyone that visits Colorado Springs should experience this fourteener that is absolutely beautiful. It is a bit pricey at 10.00 per adult considering MT. Evans has much better views and is only 10.00 per car load.

I say drive up the back and skip the Cog Railway. Much more scenic and not near as tiring.

It's fascinating to watch how quicky it can become snow-capped, then clear, then back again.

Great day out. Most people feel the altitude at the top and watch the brakes on the way down.

Description

Pikes Peak, looking over Colorado Springs from an elevation of 14,115 feet, has the reputation of being one the United States' most famous landmarks for the spectacular views from its summit. This attraction offers trails of varying experience levels and is open year-round depending on weather conditions. Barr Trail (at 13 miles) long, that begins in Manitou Springs and ends at the summit, is the longest trail in the Colorado. This landmark has gained additional recognition as being known as the inspiration for the song "America the Beautiful," written by Katherine Lee Bates.
