The yerba mate here comes in gourds, the Japanese matcha (green tea) comes with the traditional whisk, and the masala chai can be ordered with jaggery, as some people in South Asia prefer ...

A trip to Portland is incomplete without Stumptown coffee. This location on SE Belmont is relatively low-key, with nice exposed brick decor and a more neighborhoody vibe than downtown. It also has the advantage of being three blocks from my relatives' house. ;)

Salvador Molly's serves dishes throughout the world, whether it's Jamaican jerk chicken, southern fried catfish, or cajun-style jambalaya. Beware of their hot and spicy dishes. If you ask for a spicy plate, they will make it very spicy! In fact, their great balls of fire (fried habanero balls) was featured in Man v. Food.

If you love Thai food, you have to come here. Expect a wait, but it will be well worth it. If you can hold your own on spicyness, even better. Especially when it comes to the papaya salad. Drink, food, atmosphere...you really can't go wrong! TIP: If there's a long wait, you can get a drink at the bar down ...

As a fellow Southerner, I find Screen Door's southern food to be legit and delicious. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I eventually became a fan. Screen Door takes southern classics such as biscuits and gravy and shrimp and grits, and uses the Northwest's love of organic produce to achieve soulful yet refined gastronomy. I recommend the mac ...

This is one of my favorite stores in Portland Oregon on Hawthorne Blvd. Its my best spot for picking up some of the best Mortadella to make my Muffalatta. It has some great cheese selections and great meat selections that you can't normally find in any ordinary store. The people who work here are great and super friendly.
