In comparison with other Italian cities, Pisa feels much smaller and quieter. The Piazza del Duomo, where the Leaning Tower of Pisa stands, is quite lovely, though some may not find this worth a trip to an entirely different city. Keep in mind, however, that Pisa also offers a number of other churches, bridges, and the River Amo to satiate your adventure needs.

The crowds in Pisa remind me of the things I don't like in Italy- tourists, crowds and more tourists! The leaning tower is something everyone wants to see on a quick stop off the train, so make it brief and enjoy the view!

Easily the most touristy place I have ever been. Luckily I went as part of a larger tour of Tuscany, which wisely allotted only an hour in Pisa. The tower is nice (take the picture, it's ok) and I did have a nice, if somewhat limited due to language, conversation with a woman in a stationary shop, so two stars.
