If you are looking for a great location in the Quarter of New Orleans this is the one. It is right off Jackson Square next to the Cabildo... It is pretty and reasonable!

The lobby of the Place d’Armes is pretty nondescript, but in the way you can’t judge a book by its cover, in many New Orleans hotels, you can’t (always) judge a hotel by its lobby. The back courtyard, for example, was an Eden of trees, flowers, fountains, and a small pool. With plenty of seating, this is where I’d want to have my morning coffee and Danish. I saw a couple rooms. The first was an interior room with no windows, which would be the kind of room you’d take if you just wanted a nice, clean place to crash. Otherwise, it it’s a little too dark in there. (Cool, though!) Next to it was a room with a balcony overlooking St. Ann, with light streaming in and an awesome view. That would seem to be the ticket if you wanted to linger a while in the mornings, or to sit on the balcony in the evening with a wine and a smoke and stare at pedestrians in the Quarter. I struck up a conversation with a couple on the elevator as I was going to see my room. I asked them if they’d stayed at the Place d’Armes before. Their answer, which seemed telling, “Yeah. For the past 18 years.”

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It's very reasonably priced, in a great location, and feels authentic. They have a great courtyard in the middle of the hotel. I stayed here in 2006, so it has been a while (you might want to verify with some newer reviews that they're still on top of their game).
