Every time I go through Playa, I make a pit-stop at this shrimp-taco place on the highway. If you're staying _in_ Playa, it's a little bit of a schlep back out to 307, but soooo worth it. The tacos are simple: perfectly fresh shrimp in a tempura batter, fried until perfectly crispy and set on a tortilla with a squidge ...

    Yaxche

Our favorite fine dining in Playa. Yaxche is home to great service and wonderful Mayan food. Fish, steak, chicken and more are served up in traditional recipes from the Yucatan...and have an "Absolut Maya" while you're pondering the menu.

This location is super fun and lively. The walls and lamp shades are completely tagged - you can grab a marker from the host and mark your territory as well. Have a signature mojito at the bar and grub on some delicious Cuban specialties inside their large dining room.

Too cool for school. This beach club is way up at the far north end of Playa, which I guess must be the new cool frontier. The style here is very 60s Brazilian, and quite intimate--it's not a big place. The food is great. I might not want to spend my whole day here, as the super-rich crowd that was ...

Not exactly a dive but not fancy either, Frutiyogurth is a bustling little eatery that specializes in Mexican-style sandwiches--tortas--that are piled high with fillings like milanesa and chicken chipotle. There also is a long list of salads, smoothies and freshly squeezed fruit drinks. And then there's the mouthwatering breakfast entrees--the chilaquiles are definitely worth coming back for! All in all ...

    100% Natural Restaurant

5ta Avenida Norte, Gonzalo Guerrero, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, México
    4.5

This was one of the best places we ate. But it depends on what you like. This had many options for vegetarians and even vegans. Everything was organic. The sauces were scrumptious and the juices fresh. Staff was great. And beautiful surroundings; a garden in the middle of hectic 5th Ave.
