- Playa PocitosFirst to Review
Playa Pocitos lies a couple of miles southeast of Centro, in the barrio of the same name. Its popularity among the locals is mostly due to the fact that it is the nearest beach to the city center. Windsurfing is a favorite activity. It is not a particularly standout beach, its waters a quite freakish brown color, like in most parts of the Rio de la Plata I went. The water was brown in Buenos Aires, brown in Tigre (a charming estuary town an hour north of BA), brown the whole duration of the crossing into Uruguay, brown in the resort city of Colonia del Sacramento - that's my enduring image of this great body of water, brown. The Rio de la Plata only gets to a bluer shade once you reach Punta del Este and beyond, when it officially merges with the Atlantic Ocean.
