    Statue of Philip II

    Philip II of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great, is the original namesake of Plovdiv, which the Greeks called Phillipopolous. In his honor the town has a large copper statue of the General overlooking downtown.

    Dzhumaya Mosque

    Wandering into one this humble and very old Bulgarian Mosque was an interesting experience. There were a few men inside chatting. After muttering a few words of Turkish and Arabic they were very welcoming and allowed me to take pictures of the mosque.
