Our trip to Lisboa is a rather spontaneous one and I knew very little about it before planning our trip. The city itself is located beautifully on the coast, full of culture and wonderful architectures. The luscious baroque interior of Igreja de Sao Roque, the symbols of manueline architecture - Belem tower and Jerónimos Monastery, over a dozen museums of ...

Viana do Castelo is the major city north near the border with Spain and it's a beautiful city, worth a visit. A beautiful cathedral at the city highest point, with great views over the city, river and sea. City centre is beautiful. Once a year a medieval fair is organized at the city center! Great atmosphere and great chance to ...

A city located one hour south of Porto, sometimes called the little Portuguese Venice, as it is surrounded by some channels. Their traditional boats, called "moliceiros", where used on Salt transportation from salinas, where they were produced. The city is also known for its Art Noveaux buildings and famous egg pastries called Ovos Moles! Love it.!

A small town in the border with Spain, famous for its wine, Alvarinho. You'll find a small castle inside the town's medieval wall. There are a lot of activities in the area, as landscape is beautiful, great for outdoor activities. Lovely place!

If you thought your professors were tough, consider that this university, founded in 1290, once had its own court of law and, naturally, its own prison for students and scholars (under the library). One of the oldest continuously operating universities in the world, the institution grew and evolved for more than 700 years within the old town. It now includes ...

A Great place to go. Some fantastic scenery and the people are very nice. The jeep safari is a must. The trip takes you up into the mountains and you get the most spectacular views. You have to be prepared to share the ride with other tourists but it is well worth it.

Faro is nestled on the southern coast of Portugal, Faro is the heart of the country's Algarve region, where cerulean waters and mouthwatering cuisine rival those of the French Riviera or Italy's Amalfi coast (Canadian Press, 2013). But unlike some beach towns that are all sun and no soul, Faro is more than postcard-perfect views. There are charming walkways, a ...

This is a little town with a big reputation in the surf community. With full-time residents numbering in the hundreds, Peniche has made a name for itself on the international surfing circuit for the (sometimes tragically) great waves at Supertubos beach. On the less extreme side, Peniche is also increasingly becoming a popular vacation spot for Brits looking for something ...

The town of Óbidos is located on a hilltop, encircled by a fortified wall. It is known as the "Wedding Present Town" because it was a gift King Dinis gave to Queen Isabel on their wedding day in 1282. Appropriately, Gayle and I spend part of our Honeymoon here. Obidos is an extraordinarily romantic and picturesque place. This includes cobblestone ...

Gayle and I spend a nice afternoon in Tomar, a charming and historical town on the banks of the Nabao River. The main attraction for us was the Knights Templar Castle and Convent of the Order of Christ. It's a huge and magnificent ensemble of 12th- to 16th-century architecture and art and a World Heritage Site. Back in town (and ...

I would rank Sagres one of my favorite places on earth. Not that the town is special by any means, but there are at least 5 gorgeous beaches surrounding it--some good for surfing, lounging, swimming, wind surfing. Also nearby are the cliffs and lighthouse of Cape St Vincent.

Small village in Algarve, much quieter than Albufeira but with a wonderful marina full of mega yachts and sailing boats. More than one golf court in the area and a long sandy beach in front of big (and slightly dated) resorts.
