I've discovered that a cathedral in Europe is pretty much...well, a cathedral. After being to Paris, London, Amsterdam, and various other small towns where the biggest highlight is a cathedral, I've gotten a bit numb to the whole appeal. However, St. Vitus has the most beautiful stained glass I've seen. I followed my guidebook's advice and visited in late afternoon - which I think made all the difference. The sun streamed through at a low angle through the red, yellow, and blue glass windows (which are immaculately detailed, by the way - make sure you stop to appreciate the stories embedded in the pictures) and simply made the inside sparkle. The light crystals danced on the walls, painted the pews red and gold, and transformed an otherwise dark and holy interior into something more akin to heaven. Visitors are now only allowed inside the first part for free; beyond that you have to have a ticket - so I didn't tour the whole thing, but the stained glass sun display was glorious.

Sleeping Beauty's castle was modeled after this one. Hire a local guide *they are government approved* for a proper tour and all of the historical background of this beautiful place.

The castle itself is amazing, but the view of Prague from this hill was the best. The image of Prague I always saw: red roofs, was picture perfect from the castle. This is a historically important place because this is where Kings of Bohemia, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic have had their offices. Moreover, according to Guinness Book of Records, Prague Castle is the largest ancient castle in the world.

The views from Prague Castle are just gorgeous. Unfortunately, I visited it as a young thing who was more interested in the local pub than history. However, it stuck with me that at the time Vaclav Havel, the hero of the Velvet Revolution, resided there. A lovely combination of beauty, history and revolution.

Going up the hill continuing the Charles Bride, you will find yourself at the fairy tale Prague Castle, which according to the Guinness Book of World Records, is the largest castle in the world, with an area of almost 70,000 m². A UNESCO World Heritage site, the castle hosts St Vitus Cathedral, three courtyards, splendid royal gardens, and most dazzlingly, the Golden Lane, a street full of tiny colored houses, one of which the legendary Franz Kafka lived in.

Prague Castle is well worth the attraction. It sits atop a hill and can be seen throughout the city. It offers a magnificent aerial view of Prague and is one of the largest castles in Europe.Recommended for

This place is in Mala Strana up on the hill and surrounds the St. Vitus Cathedral. It is extremely massive and impossible to see in one day, but you can walk around inside the walls - it's like a town in and of itself. Definitely worth the walk effort to get to. Changing of the guards is every hour on the hour.
