Puerto Vallarta Hotel Insider
Puerto Vallarta, one of the premier resort destinations in Mexico, is an oceanfront city characterized by white sand beaches, warm weather year-round, and picture-perfect palm trees swaying in the Pacific breeze. Once labeled The Friendliest City in the World, Puerto ... read more
Vallarta is warm and welcoming to visitors and locals of all kinds; furthermore, it has a renowned LGBT-friendly atmosphere and has been cited as the number one gay beach destination in Latin America. To accommodate the millions of visitors who flock to the Mexican paradise each year, the city is equipped with over 170 hotels, including extravagant suites, mid-range and budget options, long-stay apartment villas, and youth hostels.

Puerto Vallarta Hotels
Puerto Vallarta’s sun and surf reputation makes it a hotspot for beachfront resorts. While the Marriott, Hilton, and Westin have established locales on prime pieces of real estate near the most popular attractions, there are plenty of more local names from which to choose. The Paradise Village Beach Resort & Spa is the most popular 5-star hotel in the area, offering a golf course, private spa, and palm tree-flanked pool on a private peninsula. Likewise, Garza Blanca Preserve offers regal suites and grandiose penthouses just outside the city center, nestled between the Sierra Madre mountains and the Pacific. The Dreams Resort & Spa and Villa del Palmar are both world-class 4-star options and conveniently located near Los Muertos Beach and the swinging bridge launch point to Cuale Island.

Outside of spa and golf resorts, there is an abundance of boutique and budget hotels as well. Casa Velas is a tranquil boutique getaway on a private golf course, though it is for adults only. Backpackers will find Oasis Hostel one of the best-rated hostels in the area, and Canto Del Sol is a popular spot for spring breakers, set right along the main promenade.

Things To Do
One of the most popular things to do in Puerto Vallarta (besides sit on the beach with a cerveza) is strolling the mile-long promenade of the Malecón. This boardwalk’s many cafes, nightclubs, and open air sculptures offer dawn-to-dusk (and beyond) entertainment, and the scenic lookout is worth a trek. Most of the city’s hotels are easily accessible to this strip, though Hacienda San Angel is conveniently located right at the end, with breathtaking views from exclusive suites. Barcelo Puerto Vallarta and Secrets Vallarta Bay Resort are also great central places to set up camp, both offering impeccable service and top-notch amenities, including a spa, gourmet dining, and premium Club privileges. This area is also the launchpad for many sea excursions, including yacht cruises, snorkeling, and diving -- especially in the world-famous Los Arcos National Marine Park, which is renowned for its clear waters and rich, colorful marine life.

Art lovers can stroll through downtown and peruse the many galleries, street stalls, and city art plastered on public walls. Old Town is the historic center of the city, where you can climb to the Matamoros Lighthouse for a spectacular view of the city. Old Town’s south end is known as Zona Romantica, and is known for its LGBT influence and gay pride demonstrations. The eclectic Blue Chairs Resort by the Sea is a popular gay-friendly hotel (and the city’s first one) on Playa los Muertos. It boasts a rooftop pool and sunset bar.

My ex and I stayed here when they first opened the resort. It was spectacular even in it's incomplete stage. I got it for a "steal." 7 days/6 nights for $50...all becaue we agreed to sit through a timeshare presentation. It was incredibly beautiful...the pool was the largest I'd ever seen at the time. Every night there was a buffet ...

Went here for my first ever yoga retreat. You're in a luscious, beautiful jungle. The only way to get here is an hour long boat ride. There are no TVs or other distractions. Super nicely maintained property, they feed you delicious, healthy food, offer a variety of activities (I opted for snorkeling and a massage), and I got to do ...

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful (Thanks, Carlos, for all the referrals!). The rooms were adequate and I hear they may be renovating them soon. The grounds were very clean and the ocean was a short staircase away. The resort is fairly close to town (5-10 mins by cab, 10-15 by bus), but enough out of the way that ...

I got a deal on a room here, so I chose it. My friends stayed at the Villa Premier, so now I can compare the two. The Villa Premier had a slightly better location nearer the Malecon. The pools, and the rooms were larger at the Sheraton, but the Villa Premier won when it came to service and style- they ...

Stayed here on spring break as a 20 year old college student. The pricing was the cheapest in the area so you get what you pay for, though the rooms had air-conditioning units and were right on the beach. I returned to this hotel a few months later because of it's excellent location, cheap prices and helpful staff. Great choice ...
