Puerto Vallarta...the romantic capitol! There is much to see and do here in this place and it doesn't take much to travel from Yelapa to Punta de Mita. Bus rides are an adventure for sure, and the locals LOVE Candians! Keep in mind that peddlars on the beach should be wear WHITE and have a licence around their neck, markets will barter with ya and you get the best deals when there is no cruise ship in, tourism tours are best booked with either your hotel or through Vallarta Adventures. We have tried a cheaper booking via misc peddlars on the streets that make great offers...be aware that if you go that route....when you get to the adventure site location you might just find that a local took your money and ran and you have no adventure or recourse! There is lots to do in PV....and it is a very miniaml cost to get from Yelapa to Punta de Mita and at most 1 hr and 20 min travel by local bus! Visit the markets, they have great deals, especially when cruise ships are not in, and by all means....there is nothing that will leave you bored! At first we stayed at Suites Del Sol....a very pleasant and well reputable place among the locals, not so much with tourists...but it is a quaint, well kept, clean and friendly hotel if you are looking for a much more laid back vacation. If you want something that offers a bit more...try the Pelicanos (which is just across the street)...I must warm ya tho...you have to get up at 5am to claim your sun chair and palappa..if you don't...well you snooze ya lose! You can also choose to stay in Nuevo, that is a bit more expensive, but if it's catering your are looking for then this is the place to be, it is 30 min (bus ride) outside of PV but at least the bus cost is minimal. You can also choose to stay in Mismaloya, a famous reknown film site....you can rent condos but check into the length of time you are required to stay. Some may be 3 wks, but you might find that if you book for a 3 wk vacation via airline it will cost more, as most airlines are booked on a 2 wk vacation plan. Some say PV is dirty, but I find it to be the cleanliest of most carribean and mexican places! Keep in mind that PV gets hit with hurricances once overy 5 or 10 yrs! The resources they have to rebuild are not what we are accustomed to. PV locals love their tourists and take great pride in presenting what they have to offer. Visit the Malecon in the late evening daily and see what they have to offer...there are nightly shows, comedies, artiists etc...they all will touch your heart!
