An island off an island has always had a strong appeal to me. I am most familiar with the Pusser’s restaurants and was pleased to see that they have contemporized the menus. Go Charles! Charles Tobias is still the man behind the whole concept and rum-based empire.
This Pusser’s island has four basic, get-off-the-bucket rooms, mainly for sailors who want to stop bobbin’ around for a night. Also, they are for those who come to party knowing that they are better off spending the night. Then there are the two bedroom-villas, that are often booked by families, two couples or a party crowd. All are perched high on a hilltop, and the water views are incredible. It is a fun experience, sandwiched in between a longer stay elsewhere.
What touched my heart was the story of the young couple in love that decided to live their dream isolated on a remote isle, in 1937. He was a handsome writer from a privileged, plantation family in Georgia. And he did write a novel that eventually became a movie. Alas, WW 11 escalated…well, you must go here and read the story yourself and see the vintage B&W photos.Recommended for:Family Travelers
