The Radisson Blu Beke is a bit of an enigma. Located near the Nyugati Railway Station in North Central Pest, the Radisson offers both the cookie cutter rooms and layout of standard hotel that is part of a large chain along with a bit of weirdness that one finds in smaller family run establishments. The building is adorned with mosaics and lovely stained glass windows while some of the public interior dining facilities and meeting rooms have wonderful murals with a Shakespeare theme which give it a bit a personal touch. Unfortunately, the hotel is a little drab and badly in need of an interior design upgrade as the low ceilings and dim lighting combined with the brown and burgundy hues give it a dated Socialist feel. While perfectly comfortable, it is definitely lacking the crisp freshness of other Radisson Hotels in European cities like Milan and Berlin. It does have a pool which is quite large, however as most tourists prefer to attend the world famous bathhouses of Budapest, it is seldom used.

The stained glass windows and frescoes by Hungarian artist Jenő Haranghy can hardly fail to make an impression on the first time visitor to the Radisson’s Hungarian flagship hotel. Built in 1914, the modern day premises happily merge its late era Art Nouveau origins with the kind of service and facilities you’d expect from a contemporary four star hotel. Rooms are cheerfully furnished in bright though not garish hues. Noise from the street can sometimes be obtrusive, as the hotel is a short walk from the Nyugati (Western) train station. On the plus side, the indoor swimming pool is larger than most others we’ve seen in this town. Incongruously, or at least without any obvious explanation we could see, a statue of Winston Churchill with bulldog stands guard at the foot of the stairwell. There’s also a gift shop in the foyer, which is usually a sign the hotel is behind the times.

The Radison Blu Beke Hotel is another grand boulevard hotel with a past, lovingly remodeled into a modern facility. A variety of rooms is available (average room is on a small side), including business class (20 Euro supplement) and suites (75 m2, for 50 Euro supplement).
The rooms have a tailored look throughout. The furnishing is modern, with a solid mattress for a good night sleep, sitting area, minibar and individually controlled air conditioning. The bathroom has a shower in a tub.
Sitting area is welcoming. There is a flat screen TV, ample closet space and a room safe. Breakfast is not included in the regular price but may be purchased for 17 Euro extra. A nice touch in the coffee shop of the hotel is that your coffee/tea is served in the famous Zsolnay fine china. Walk out the front door and you are in the middle of the bustling downtown with eateries, movies, theater only blocks away.Recommended for:Business Travelers
