Rainey Street, a formerly rundown part of town near Lady Bird Lake, was recently renovated and has quickly become one of the city's liveliest places to grab cocktails and trailer food in a relaxed environment. It's different from the East Side's hipster dives and it doesn't have the fraternity boy debauchery of Dirty Sixth Street. The unique open-aired patios of hotspots like Lustre Pearl and Clive Bar instead offer the perfect place to just kick up your heels with locals without any sense of pretension.Recommended for:

Rainey Street is the new 6th Street, didn't you hear? I much prefer bar hopping on Rainey than on 6th. Bars like Lustre Pearl and most recently, Javelina, offer really good food. Javelina has an in-house kitchen. I suggest trying their chips and queso, and especially the veggie burger. You can even get the veggie burger "hypocrite" style with bacon on it! Lustre Pearl has ping-pong, hula-hoops and a taco trailer in the backyard. The chicken quesadilla is delish! Bar 96 across the street is good for sports fans. Also try Clive Bar and Icenhauer's. And while you're at Icenhauer's, try one of their specialty drinks. My favorite is the refreshing gingery drink called "The Katie."
