This is an amazing park and hike even without all the moai. Rano Raraku was the quarry where the natives carved these giant statues and you can see a moai at every stage, from being outlined in the rock to its beginnings down the mountain to the destination it never reached. There are several amazing vistas of the island.

The Rapa Nui National Park is practically the entire island of Rapa Nui. The only part that's not under the Park system is perhaps the only town on the island, Hanga Roa and the airport. This Park is one fantastic site for education, cultural understanding, and nature appreciation.
