My wine tasting experience at Ravenswood was more friendly and informal than many of the other vineyards I visited. The setting is cosy and picturesque, and the wines themselves are outstanding. This should definitely be a stop on any wine tasting tour in Sonoma.

Often thought of for it's large commercial wines. This quaint little winery feel exactly opposite with their wonderful tasting room and outdoor seating areas with sweeping views. We especially love their (crisp and never buttery) Chardonnay's and light & refreshing Muscat dessert wines.

This small winery is close to downtown Sonoma and has excellent Zins. Be sure to ask for Uncle Bob, he's the best!

If you are fond of zinfandel, there is no better place. The winery is about 4 minutes by car, or 10-15 minutes by foot. It's a great tasting room, with a lovely vista of vines and sonoma hills. Call ahead for awesome wine tastings or custom events.

Ravenswood Winery is another great location for a picnic just a few blocks outside of the town of Sonoma. They are known for their zins -- just make sure your picnic food can stand up to the wine. Maybe some cold chicken and a spicy potato salad! Yum! Now I want to go back! Also, check out their website - very cool: http://www.ravenswoodwinery.com/

Still our favorite winery in California. Their specialty is Red Zinfandels. Plus, when we visited, they basically let us try every wine in the place for $5, and they gave that back if you bought a bottle. I think we bought 6!

Their motto is "no wimpy wines" and they mean it. The winery is just a little north of the Sonoma Square, and you'll have a fun time here tasting. Of all of their wines, my favorite has consistently been the Dickerson Zinfandel.
