A fabulous budget guesthouse in a traditional hutong area of north-central Beijing. The hutong are the traditional courtyard houses of old Beijing, and fewer and fewer of them are left as China 'renovates'. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful, but what sets this place apart is the amazing communal atmosphere in the mornings and evenings, when guests all sit around a large table in the common area to talk and swap stories. If you're going to Beijing, do yourself a favor - stay away from the tourist ghetto and stay here instead.Recommended for:

This is one of the most pleasant places I have ever slept into! There are two main separate buildings: make sure you reserve your ensuite room at the West Courtyard. It's located very close to the Xisi Station of Subway 4, in the typical Hutong called "Xisi Bei 2 Tiao". The receptionist are very nice, the place is warm and full of services and amenities. They have free WIFI 24hours and the beautiful rooms are around two typical chinese courtyards with red lanterns all around, tables to rest, watch the sky and the stars. Breakfast is very generous and good and you can also have dinner here: the chef is very talented!
