Red Light District

Wow what a way to start a trip with a tour group you just met at the infamous red light district drunk and high. After a nice drunken boat tour during the day, we started our night at one bar with several shots. Then walked around while the tour guide talked about the history or the district. We got to ...

If you like to be in the thick of things, then I would definitely recommend the Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky. Truly ‘grand’, the building that houses the hotel has long been an essential feature of the city’s history. The hotel entrance faces directly onto the iconic Dam Square and the Royal Palace, which is simply incomparable to any other location in ...

The Radisson Blu in Amsterdam is located most conveniently: within walking distance of the center, yet tucked away from the hustle and bustle. It was also a surprise to walk into a large atrium, from which you access the reception, bar, restaurant and events rooms. The wide open space was definitely a nice change from the reduced sizes of Amsterdam. ...

Our 2nd St. Christopher's hostel stay (1st one was in Paris). The rooms were spacious and had a bathroom which was awesome! The rooms also had themes that were painted by different artists ... our room had little pink turnipy looking characters. Downstairs was the Belushi's bar which all the St. Christopher's had and this one served pretty delicious food. ...

Not many hotels can boast about being neighbors to the Royal Palace in Amsterdam, but the Swissótel stands only steps away from the city’s iconic Dam square. From this center point you have access through public transport to anywhere in the city, and (with the Central Station only a 5 minute walk away) anywhere else you may want to go. ...

It was years ago that I stayed here, but hopefully it hasn't changed much. Downstairs has a bar and a nice pub atmosphere for meeting new folks. The rooms are big, and they use big metal garbage tins for lockers which I thought was fun. They charge a small fee but they'll serve a little breakfast.

This is a pretty funky and wild hostel, but that's to be expected in Amsterdam. Their bar and, ahem, smoking lounge are great places to hang out, but the rooms and bathrooms leave something to be desired.

Fantastic combination of old historic vibe, classy service and modern tech and amenities. This hotel is in a chunk of old canal houses, and has a certain old-fashioned vibe that comes from the super-deep carpet and staff in black suits. But everything has been updated with modern style--huge blow-ups of details of Old Master paintings, absurdly high-tech bathrooms, etc. The ...

While unassuming and rather understated, the Renaissance Hotel can surprise you. With an unbeatable location near Central Station, yet off the crowded thoroughfares, it offers a simple and relaxing stay in Amsterdam. One particular bonus point for me was the fitness center: huge, open 24 hours, and all for free for guests! It was like a 24 Hour Fitness Center ...

Historic hotel emblazoned in Jugendstil. The hotel may not have had a facelift in quite a while, but when you look like this on the inside, you don't have to. Think 30's and 40's architecture and ornate carpets and chandeliers and you get the drift. The adjacent American restaurant has a very famous high tea every day. And the price ...

Luxurious, old-fashioned elegance at its subtlest. Sitting nonchalantly on a modest canal street, I nearly walked right past the hotel at first. Step down the red-carpeted entry stairs (and ring the bell to be let in), and you feel like you've just entered the home of a diplomat. The lobby is small and unassuming, but look more closely and you'll ...
