This hotel is the exact opposite of the Sheraton Downtown Hotel not far away. How so, you ask?
Renaissance: This hotel is pretty new, looks fresh and clean
Sheraton: This has been around a long time, but they spruced it!
Sher: It is in a great location, downtown near the 16th Street Mall.
Ren: It is in a buffalo pasture near the airport
Sher: People go there for conferences and meetings a lot
REn: People go here when the airlines effed up their connections
Sher: There are tons of eateries within a short walk on the 16th St Mall
Ren: There is a Wal-Mart and some fast food across the parking lot
Sher: People come here and use their Visa, MC or Amex
Ren: People come here with Airline vouchers
This Renaissance is an Embassy Suites wannabee, without the free breakfast food and free Manager's reception booze included. It has a 12 story atrium and hanging vine planters, a la Embaassy Suites. But no babbling brook and Koi fish.
Still, it is clean and efficient, with a great working desk with 4 outlets and connections to the large LCD TV, and an upgraded bed, more like Westin's or Sheraton's, actually! Instead of that foam spnge thing yuo find at the lesser Marriott brandes, this had the plush, soft, but firm heavenly sleeper type bed a la Starwood.
For a United Airlines voucher hotel, this is really upscale! I think the last time this happened to me in ORD (Chicago), I had to walk and drag my bags to the Red Roof Inn!

From a distance, the Renaissance looks like a huge Maya temple, triangular in shape, with a heavy stone feel and few windows. Well, a 1970’s Maya temple. It’s a surprise, then, to walk in to find an open and airy lobby that extends up 10 floors, with modern décor, leafy plants, and glass elevators to take it all in. It’s dramatic in all the right ways. The rooms are spacious and updated—with flat screen TVs, lots of lighting, and beds so comfortable, I had a hard time waking up. The common areas include an indoor and outdoor pool—a big plus if you’re travelling with kids—a great work out room with lots of windows, and a decent restaurant. My only complaints are that it caters to big groups, so the restaurant or pool or lobby can by empty one minute and completely harried the next. It’s also located on the far east side of town, away from Denver’s sights (and across from a Home Depot), so you’ll need a car to check out the town. Other than that, though, this place gets two big thumbs up.Recommended for:Family Travelers

I’ve driven by this place a bunch of times and always wondered what in the world it's like inside. Now I know, and I have to admit I’m pleasantly surprised. You can’t miss the hotel, rising like an elongated Maya pyramid on the west side of Quebec Blvd and visible from the I-70 freeway. The hotel’s interior is huge and airy, rising a dozen stories or more above the lobby and restaurant area. The guestrooms are arranged along the edges, accessed by glass-walled elevators and opening onto wide open-air passageways overlooking the cavernous central area. Rooms are spacious and bright; ask for one on the west side for nice mountain views. You’ll still need a car--the Wings of the Rockies museum is probably the closest attraction--but at least you won’t feel constrained insidethe hotel itself.
