This hotel screams traditional from the moment you enter and are greeted in the lobby by a pretty, Korean woman dressed in Hanbok (traditional Korean dress). The space is grand, but the style is unfocused and the array of furnishings doesn’t fill the lobby well. It’s a mishmash of marble, formica, busy-patterned rugs and sofas, and odd tables and lamps that don’t go together. Random elements added in an attempt to make the space seem luxurious, like chandeliers, just seem out of place. The hotel confuses clutter with décor. That said, the guest rooms are more tastefully and sensibly furnished and are large and clean. The staff is friendly as well. There are Korean and Italian restaurants that are just okay, but more of a draw is Vendome, the outdoor beer garden on the lower level. It’s far from authentic, but is still nice for relaxing in the evening. The basement level also has a small art gallery and some shops. Overall, you won’t have a terrible experience here, but there are nicer hotels to be had in Gangnam for 200 bucks a night.

The Renaissance Seoul Hotel has a very courteous and friendly staff, well-furnished rooms, and several convenient hotel amenities. The breakfast buffet is better than most, and offers both Western and Asian food items. My room was well furnished, comfortable and even had free Wi-Fi. Shopping malls are nearby and major tourist attractions such as Itaewon and Seoul Tower are less than 30 minutes away. Overall, a great hotel that I would stay at again.
