I don't know about you, but I can't afford to eat every meal in a restaurant when I'm traveling. I like the Residence Inn because every room has a cute, clean, and up-to-date kitchenette for those nights when you just want to throw together a quick dinner before heading out. I also like the decor: red furniture, stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, jazz-inspired details. I could easily spend a few days in one of these rooms.
The lobby is huge with a cozy sitting area around a fireplace and a little business center looking out over the street. They host an evening social there on weeknights with wine and beer, so be sure to check that out, or head upstairs to the pool and fitness area, both of which have great views.

Residence Inn is one half of a tandem of hotels that combine to form one of the weirder lodging setups I’ve seen. It’s located adjacent to Springhill suites, but really it’s more like the two are just halves of one hotel. Residence Inn features a darker, redder color palate, and its rooms are designed as a single-bedroom studio. The room layout definitely comes in handy if you prefer a full-size refrigerator to keep groceries, and a small living-room space to hang out in.
You can cross from one hotel to the other by walking across any floor and going through the white swing doors. On the flipside, Springhill Suites features a lighter, greener color palate and more modern touches. The rooms aren’t laid out as openly as Residence Inn, but they feature larger couches that can be pulled out into sofa beds, and can accommodate more people.
Both halves have access to the rooftop gym, pool, and hot tub. All feature stunning views of the city, and going for a dip up there is a definite must when staying at either hotel.

For extended stays in the city, this is an excellent spot. With a full kitchen and spacious living area in every room, this place feels more like a one-bedroom apartment than a hotel room. Granite countertops and state-of-the-art appliances make it look like the kitchens were freshly remodeled, while bright red furniture and pictures hanging on the walls keep the living space feeling homey and cozy. I especially liked the floor-to-ceiling wood paneling as the backdrop behind the beds.
The Wifi kind of sucked throughout the building, which was a big letdown, but I was really pleased with the hotel's indoor pool and whirlpool area. From the hotel's central location in the heart of River North, the views from the top of the 27th floor were absolutely amazing.

These rooms are designed for extended stay, not that they’re not worth it for a great weekend. They’re more like very nice studio apartments than hotel rooms. The kitchens are fully stocked with plates, bowls, utensils, etc. If you spring for the one bedroom, you’re basically paying for a door to the bedroom, which in some cases might be very worth it, but I like the space in the Studios a little bit more. The pool and fitness center are great here for opposite reasons. There is an awesome view from the pool, and there are TVs and headphones attached to all the machines in the fitness center. There’s also a complimentary buffet from 6-7:30 every night, if you don’t want to use your kitchen or go to any of the awesome restaurants in the area. They serve comfort food.
