In the heart of Portland's characterless "South Waterfront" development project, the Residence Inn is a good place to base yourself if you want easy access to downtown Portland or the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU). There’s a streetcar that runs right near the hotel and its walking-distance to an aerial tram that links South Waterfront with OHSU. And while the hotel and its environs lack any of the quirkiness for which Portland is so frequently celebrated, Residence Inn is a reliable (albeit a bit sterile) place to lay your head, and the rooms are a great value. As with all Residence Inns, all the rooms here—even the studios—have kitchens, making it ideal for long-term travelers who don’t want to spend a lot eating out. And while WiFi and breakfast are free for guests, you unfortunately have to pay extra to park here.Recommended for:

The location on the waterfront is good, especially for running or walking in the evening or mornings. It is a little bit close to I-5 where it crosses the river from the west to the east side, so rooms closer to the freeway might also have a view of the Wilamette River. There's a free appetizer/dinner hour in the early evenings that does make the place feel like a retirement center. It's good though, because the places to eat on the waterfront that are open at night are overpriced. You can have any kind of pets here for a charge and there's a laundry room, pool, and gym. It's generic feeling, but the location on the water is pretty and convenient and the rooms themselves are cozy enough for a short-term or long-term stay.Recommended for:

Located in a newly developed outer area of downtown SW Portland, in what was once an industrial area with a powerhouse, the Residence Inn is an elegant business hotel set by the Willamette River.
Marketed primarily to long stay business guests, the Residence with in-kitchen suites is also nicely set for families who would like a central location just off the main downtown area. Within easy walking distance of downtown, Portland State University, and both riverbank esplanades (eastside over the Hawthorne Bridge), Willamette Park, and I5 South, the Inn is pretty well perfect for those who want to be close to downtown but not directly in it.
The Residence exudes simple Marriott elegant efficiency in its style and the amenities offered including fitness room, spa, and an indoor swimming pool.
Rates for a variety of suites are competitive ranging currently from $199 for a studio to $249 per night for a two bedroom suite. The suites include fully equipped kitchens including stovetop and dishwasher. Complimentary breakfast and wifi are also in the rate.
I would recommend this hotel!Recommended for:

This is the housing provided by Portland Opera. The staff is super friendly and familiar with the opera guests. They go out of their way to upgrade your room size knowing you will be there for a month. They offer 2br 2 ba suites. They have Graco Pack N Play's for cribs as well as high chairs for the dining area. They will bring a highchair to your room if you ask. Couches are fold out beds. The two bedrooms have a full kitchen. Indoor, heated pool and gym. Free full breakfast every morning. Drinks and dinner provided 3 nights a week free of charge. Free Internet. GREAT location. Right on the river where they have a wonderful pedestrian walking path complete with restaurants, shops, coffee shops, salon, etc. Right on a train stop that will take you downtown. Last time I was there, train was free of charge for inner city stops, but I believe they were changing that. Downside, they have laundry in the building, but not in your rooms and you have to pay for it. Can add up when you have kids. AND you can earn Marriott points for your stay.
This hotel has other great options like a shuttle that will take you places if you book in advance (not the airport though). They also have a grocery shopping service and a small market by the front desk with some basic food and drinks, including alcohol!
Opera rehearsal space is approximately a 1 mile walk from hotel and the theater is even closer at about 1/2 mile. The rehearsal space is actually closer than a mile away, but it is on the other side of the river, so you have to go around and use the bridge. The opera has a connection with a bike store that will loan you a bike free of charge for the duration of your stay. I LOVED this option when I was there in the fall. They may even give you a seat for your baby if you ask, that's how nice they are!Recommended for:
