I really enjoyed my stay at the Rio Mar. Its a beautiful resort. The beach is very nice and the adult only pool is amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed relaxing all day by the beach under the palm trees. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy all day. Breakfast was good, dinner at the Italian restaurant Palio is fantastic. The rooms are okay, they are a little run down, but the hotel will soon be renovated, and then this resort will really be an idyllic spot to venture to for anyone in need of a great vacation. The resort is also very close to the rainforest...I had a great view from my hotel room, unfortunately I didn't make it there on this shirt trip.Recommended for:

The hotel was gorgeous and we had a great time there, but I would not recommend staying there. Most of the staff were just okay. They were nice, but they just weren't accommodating at all. They didn't know answers to any questions. And the answers they gave always conflicted with another staffs' answers. Minus a few of the staff. Probably three that we met were very nice and very accommodating.
Also, they had really weird rules. The pools closed at 10 pm every night. And (get this) SO DID THE BARS! What?!? Doesn't make sense at all. Also, they had maybe 5-6 restaurants on property and at any given time, only about 2 were ever open. There was one night that only one was open.
Lastly, Rio Mar is not an all-inclusive resort, which isn't really a problem in and of itself. But they were as opposite from all-inclusive as could be. They charged an arm and a leg for everything. Parking was expensive. My father decided not to even play golf because of how much it cost (and he golfs EVERYWHERE. It's hard for him to turn down golf), plus more money to rent clubs. Want a fridge in your room? Extra $$.
The good thing is, my family is very laid back. A bad hotel isn't going to make us have a bad experience. We had SO much fun and we have no regrets. The things we liked were the beach, getting to feed the iguanas, and that we could coerce one staff member into giving my parents a free cabana on their 30th anniversary. But if we ever did it again, we would choose a different hotel.Recommended for:

This resort was amazing. Our room was in a quiet corner with a view of the ocean and the pool areas. The private beach was clean and beautiful. The grounds of this hotel was landscaped beautifully. The service was really good. All the staff we came across greeted us with a hello or a smile, or a friendly comment. The breakfast buffet was a bit expensive, but was really good. It had a variety of fresh fruits and berries, made to order eggs and omelets, an assortment of pastries, meats, and other breakfast favorites to get your day off to a good start. All the meals we had there was cooked perfectly and really tasty. They had a variety of foods to choose from. I like the idea of an adult only pool as well as a family pool equiped with water slides and water falls and poolside service. The room was clean and confortable. This resort is a gem.Recommended for:
