I felt like I was barely being tolerated by the front desk staff. I had to ask my questions real quick and squeeze them in before the guy had the chance to shuffle me along and talk to the next person. Maybe it was just a particularly busy moment, but I did not feel welcome. The hotel itself is really nice though. It's like an old Rittenhouse family estate, if such a thing exists. There aren't many amenities to speak of, but thats because they're in such a great area--you can walk around the corner for coffee, food, drinks, a gym, whatever. They do have wi-fi. I have been surprised by how many hotels still do not have wi-fi for guests. So I give them props for that.

The location of this hotel is everything. Rittenhouse Square is your backyard, and your front yard is a quiet semi-private small street without the usual traffic and noise that accompanies a Center City stay. I thought the decor was very tasteful and understated--I like that quality so much more than hotels that are clearly trying very hard to appear hip. The service wasn't great--I felt rushed along by the impatient front desk clerk--but at the same time I got the sense they were very protective of their guests privacy and safety. The amenities are limited here. but you won't feel anything is lacking. Who needs an on-site restaurant when there are world-class restaurants within blocks? And they have connections with a nearby fitness center if you're not getting enough exercise hoofing it around town.

Charming and romantic location. This is a great spot to bring your partner for a quiet weekend exploring old Philadelphia. It feels like a stately old colonial estate with all the touches of home. I found it hard to believe I was just a block or two away from the high rises of downtown Philly. The Rittenhouse Square neighborhood is lovely. I didn't care for the lobby and felt that they could do better to make it a more inviting space. Otherwise, this was a peaceful spot in an otherwise busy city.

This hotel is a nice alternative to the big city hotels if you're looking to experience a more authentic and traditional Philadelphia. It's a charming building in a beautiful historic neighborhood, giving you the feel that you are a guest in a home rather than at a hotel. On the downside, this boutique location lacks most of the fine touches and luxury amenities of nearby and comparably priced downtown hotels. Staying here is about the experience of old Philadelphia. Personally, it's not really for me. When staying in modern cities, I'd prefer the swimming pool and chic lobby bar to the Bed and Breakfast approach. But that's my taste...
