I really like the Ritz-Carlton Cancun. I mean REALLY like it. If I weren’t trying to maintain some type of professional composure I would dare say I love it. I’m the kind of guy who likes either really bare-bones, economical hostels or over-the-top opulence. The Ritz obviously embodies the latter. Something about polished marble floors, dark teak wood decor and gold framed portraits of Victorian era dead people floats my boat. That’s not to say this lovely hotel doesn’t have the most modern amenities en suite. Of course there are gorgeous pools and seaside palapas, it’s Cancun after all. But once you step indoors you are kind of transported back to a time when you might have arrived at the lobby in a horse and carriage.
If you are feeling especially adventurous the bar offers test flights of premium tequila, you know, to keep it real.

This hotel was very elegant. Typical Ritz traditional ambiance and furnishings. The two large doors opened into a very cool, beautiful lobby. The elegant chairs, chandeliers, fancy carpet, and drapes made quite an impression. I cruised through the bar with the ocean view and noticed the two fine dining restaurants. I actually liked the fact that this wasn’t a traditional “all inclusive” type resort, and you didn’t have to sport a bracelet to prove you belonged there eating or drinking. It is more of a high class, traditional hotel, as opposed to a party atmosphere. Refreshing change for me personally. I loved the marble floors in the room, separate shower enclosure, and soft robes provided to wear while lounging in the perfectly cool room. The ocean view room, and quiet hotel was a welcomed change to some of the usual Cancun party resorts.
