While it does carry the Ritz Carlton name, and it offers all the comforts of a luxury five star hotel, I think this property really lacks the character typical to a South Beach hotel. Though luxuriously furnished, it's tastefully outdated and even drab. I dare say I prefer the outlandishness of the Fontainebleau, with its neon blue uplights and gaudy chandeliers. At least there, you know you're in Miami! That said, staying at the Ritz is an endless parade of comfort and service, without all the fuss of the trashy Miami crowd trying to hammer their way into Liv. If you're looking for rest, relaxation and comfort, away from it all yet close enough, the Ritz is the place for you.Recommended for:

Being a Ritz-Carlton means there aren’t many surprises at this hotel, but reliable, attentive service, and traditional upscale rooms is no doubt what most Ritz-Carlton guests are looking for. The room décor is not uber-modern—this ain’t the Delano—but it’s comfortable and elegant, and if you spring for a beach view, all you’ll do is stare out the floor-to-ceiling window or lay out on your balcony anyway. The hotel has probably the best location in all of South Beach: on the ocean, at the corner of Collins Ave and shopping mecca Lincoln Road. It also has the biggest pool on the beach and the added bonus of a Tanning Butler, who’ll happily ensure you don’t get sunburned. (That is, if you like attractive strangers applying your SPF). I like the big, airy lobby bar for a nightcap but my favorite place here is DiLido Beach Club, one of the few places on the beach serving weather-appropriate Mediterranean-style food.Recommended for:

The friendly staff, the luxury decor, the sheer allure of the Ritz...In other words, you get what you pay for. This hotel will make you feel like a king with its rooftop pool, lush rooms, and delicate attention to detail. Why make a fuss about the little things? Let the peasants take care of it. After all, you'll have at least five people on hand to handle any needs. All you have to do is roll up in your Benz ( no one will notice it's a rental), crawl up to the pearly gates, and drink in all that is luxurious and extravagant. Too stuffed on pâté to make it to the beach? No problem, with the beachfront balcony in your luxe suite.Recommended for:

I have stayed at the Ritz twice and yes it is very nice, but I think there are better hotels in Miami. Of course, it has everything an upscale hotel or another Ritz would have. However, there are a lot of families here, so if that isn't your thing, don't stay here. Also, the rooms are just ok - they have a very "hotel" feel, whereas other hotels in Miami have added the art deco decor to the rooms and it's much cooler. The bathrooms are fantastic.Recommended for:

Hotel: great. Rooms: wonderful. Pool: freakin amazing. The Saturday I stayed they had a DJ spinning poolside, but not in an obnoxious way that permeates into the rooms. Plus, the deck and pool wasn't crammed as can be the case with some of the other hotels in the area.

I love these grand South Beach hotels that feel straight out of an old James Bond flick. Seriously, you walk into the extravagant lobby of this Ritz, and you expect to see 007 himself drinking a vesper over at the lobby bar. This place is drop dead gorgeous, stylin'! Love the decor, the luxurious rooms and the fantastic, sprawling beachfront pool area. If there's a detraction, it would be that the Ritz is perhaps too large for a beach hotel (there are full scale banquet facilities here...). It almost feels like a very upscale business hotel that happens to be on the beach. But as far as I'm concerned, if this is where you want to do business with me, I'm game. Should I meet you in Lapidus Lounge with my laptop so we can go over some spreadsheets?Recommended for:
