Rivas

Primarily a transit hub and you are bound to pass through it if you are driving in the south along the Pacific coast. Home to an attractive cathedral and central square. The big crowd on a side street near the main square is primarily visitors waiting to see loved ones / friends at the prison.

San Juan del Sur is kind of the surf hub in Nicaragua. Places to stay, driving distance to lots of surf spots and access to boats to take you to the best spots.

Wild, pristine and protected dry forest wilderness directly on the majestic Pacific coast. Not only a Costa Rican national treasure, but a global one as well. Wonderful place to surf or come camp and spot howler monkeys, sea turtles, macaws and coatis. I love this place.

    Playa Gigante

Pleasant beach known for seafood shacks that sell inexpensive lobster. Watching the pelicans dive for their lunch as you eat yours is a treat. The surf can be rough here so be a little careful. Popular with backpackers and surfers. Also home to a dive shop. A foot path leads to the more private Playa Redondo.
