Punting on the River Cam is a must do when visiting Cambridge. We rented a self service boat but I wish we had hired someone to punt and give us the tour. Give yourself 90 min to travel up and down the river.

Learning to punt on the River Cam is good fun. The views are better if you head towards Grantchester

Yes, Cambridge is the bridge over the cam. Great river for rowing and kayaking, but don't drink the water. If you come, be sure to try punting on a nice day.

Walking along the River Cam from the centre of Cambridge is well worth the effort. The part of the river that flows past the Univeristy Colleges can only be seen from a punt that can be hired, but in the other direction there is a charming walkway that follows the river for a few miles. The initial stretch in the town centre is often full of punts and after the lock on the river, this gives way to charming houseboats and rowers. The river is lined with boathouses where the long rowing boats of the various teams ply their way up and down the river. If the timing is right you can catch one of the many rowing competitions. There is a handy pub on the riverside, The Fort St. George, that makes a good place to stop for a drink while watching the river traffic.
